In this canvas, characterised by forms resembling nucleated ovoid microorganisms intersected by colourful rectangular elements, the artist seeks to convey a complex dynamic equilibrium using colour schemes marked by great tension, dominated by strong colours. He uses an extensive colour palette in which unexpected rhythms are established, intersecting wide horizons of colour designed in proportion to a complex spatiality in which an almost biological reality is transfigured into pictorial fiction. The chromatic combinations of hot/cold fill the canvas with rhythm, tension and an almost childish joy.

Nas telas da série cocus, em que preponderam formas similares a micro-organismos ovalares nucleados interceptadas por elementos retangulares coloridos, o autor pretende transmitir um equilibrio dinâmico complexo em cromatismos de grande tensão onde preponderam as cores fortes. Usa uma paleta cromática ampla na qual se que estabelecem ritmos inesperados que interceptam largos horizontes cromáticos dimensionados na construção de espacialidade complexa onde uma realidade, quase biológica, se transfigura em ficção pictórica. As combinações cromáticas de quente/frio inundam a tela de ritmo, tensão e uma alegria quase infantil.

Amamede (António José Mamede de Albuquerque) was born in Cape Verde in 1943. Formerly of dual nationality, in 1974 he chose Portuguese nationality.
A teacher in higher education with a PhD in Medicine, he has been devoted to Painting since 1975.
His work was exhibited for the first time at the “Exposição Artistas de Coimbra” [Coimbra Artists Exhibition] organised in 1988 by the XI Congresso Nacional de Ortopedia [XI National Orthopedics Congress]. An associate of the Movimento Artístico de Coimbra [Coimbra Artistic Movement] from 1988, in 1994 he began collaborating in the teaching of Artistic Anatomy to students of ARCA-ETAC.
He was Associate Professor at the Coimbra University College of Arts, where he taught Theoretical Anatomy (1st and 2nd year of the various licentiate’s degrees) until 2008.
He is represented in a number of private collections, mainly belonging to collectors in the Portuguese and Brazilian university environment.
